Upside down with 3D glasses on.
Why do we take photos of ourselves in the mirror? Maybe because of pure vanity, you have no one to take a photo of you (sad but true), or for just for the hell of taking a picture of something. For me it's been a way of testing gear, like a new external flash or lens. Seriously! Sure I make stupid faces, and ham it up. But, why not? I might as well do something if I'm taking my own picture. I like to experiment with light, and get a bit of a high when I see something superbly, or not so superbly, but uniquely lit. I'm not a lightmaster by no means, yet, but when I see a photo that I set up by controlling the light I get a high. Maybe that's strange for some of you, but if you're reading a photography blog, then you probably know what I'm talking about. It's a feeling of excitement, hope, and foresight. Foresight because once I take the photo, I'm like "ok now what more can I do with this? Then lightroom comes into play, my other obsession. More on that later. I'm a compulsive "do it yourselfer". It's funny, I actually take a lot of pride in teaching myself, fixing something, or making something work. I recently spent hours repairing a couple prime lenses. It's a sense of accomplishment that comes from within. No one can take credit for teaching yourself, or doing something that has been brought on by your own initiative except you. What does this have to do with taking photos in the mirror? Sure I could set up the tri-pod, set the self-timer, then be a goof ball in front of the camera, but that's way to much hassle, and I like clicking the shutter. Take your own photo. C'mon, ham it up :) Maybe even upside down with 3D glasses on.
